Courses in leadership
6. UGL – Leadership and Co-operation in Groups, 5 days
UGL stands for Utveckling av Grupp och Ledare (translation: Development of Groups and Leaders) and its aim is to make the participants more effective as leaders or managers, trainers and
group members.

This course is about group dynamics, and focuses on the participants’ own experiences in the exercises and information provided during the course. The course is experiencebased,
and participants work actively to develop themselves within their
own areas.

The course is demanding and puts heavy demands on you as a participant. You should be mentally in balance with yourself and your environment. The course is run in groups of 8–12 people and is led by two experienced and certified facilitators. The course is in the form of a residential course at the ICEHOTEL over five days and includes sessions each evening. The course requires your attendance at all sessions.

7. Course in Developing Leadership
“With good conventional management, you can achieve your goals. By applying a Developing Leadership, you can go even further…”

The aim of this course is to give you a solid foundation for consciously developing your leadership on a daily basis; and to contribute to developing you and your organization towards greater efficiency.

Before the course start, your current leadership style is mapped. This is done by you yourself and those you select from your work environment filling in a rating form. The results of this rating are qualityassured on a scientific basis by the Swedish National Defence College (FHS).

The course runs for four days, with three days initially and one day’s followup after three months. The course is run in groups of 8–15 people and is led by experienced and certified facilitators. You first get a theoretical grounding in the Developing Leadership model. Thereafter, lectures alternate with exercises in which you work actively on strengthening your current leadership.

Throughout the course, you get personal feedback from the other course participants and the course facilitators. You receive personal supervision in continuing to develop and strengthen your leadership based on your own personal action plan. The last part of the course is the reunion with followup three months later to firmly establish your personal action plan.

8. Safety in the Mountains – 4 + 4 days
Summer course, 4 days, covers choice of equipment, planning your route and how to safely cross a flooded mountain stream when the bridges have been washed away. Starts in the region of Kebnekaise and the goal is to reach the top of Sweden’s highest mountain.

Winter course, 4 days, focuses on learning about snow and avalanches. We also of course go through what you need in terms of equipment and test digging in and down in the snow (bivouac) as a way of surviving the extreme weather conditions that can occur in alpine terrain. We take ourselves up into the alpine region on snow scooters to our base camp. From here, each section of your learning begins.

9. Safety in the Wilderness
Summer course, 4 days, held along the banks of Torne River. We make camp (bivouac), start a fire, and go through orienteering and nature’s storehouse, and also the importance of good hygiene and what assistance nature can offer in this regard.

Winter course, 5 days, held in the capital of cold, Jukkasjärvi. The focus is on how to manage extreme cold, bivouacking, starting a fire and how to use the terrain for getting from place to place and orienteering.

10. Working in Extreme Cold
With all the experience we’ve gained from building the ICEHOTEL, snow scooter safaris with inexperienced guests in temperatures of minus 40 degrees C and expeditions on skis over many kilometres in midwinter with the marine solders of the Swedish Defence Forces, we have acquired unique experience in how to behave in order to ensure that work can be done safely even when the mercury sinks down below minus 30 degrees C.
