Entré and landscape
Vintergatan

‘The main task of this year was to create an entrance to ICEHOTEL from the Torne River and to guide visitors around the area.

We have worked with the differences in height that occur between the hotel and the river by constructing terraces. The terraces are designed to create entrances from the river and also function as lookout spots and gathering places. Light behind ice blocks guide visitors, while the ice sculptures placed in groups, act as destinations along the winter walk.’’

Uppsala Ultuna University

At their 8th year of collaboration with ICEHOTEL, landscape architecture students of University Ultuna in Uppsala, are selected to design construct the landscape, bridging ICEHOTEL and the Torne River.
Initiated by lecturer Lena Kriström Kulin, also an experienced ICEHOTEL artist, the students work as group on the design and construction.

At the completion of the project, the students will produce a catalogue, web site and DVD, about the working process.
‘‘It’s a truly unique school project for the students, to gain real work experience from sketches to project completion, thanks to the qualities of snow and ice.’’
