Main Hall Gallery - Conversations
My motifs are about the human and in my eight wall plates, I want to express different possibilities to communicate.

The light breaking the angles of the ice recreates my lines from the original drawings making them come alive and shining as you move around them.

To me it is joyful to see the ice melting and disappearing, providing me the opportunity to continue my investigations in light, ice, and form over and over again.

Lena Kriström Kulin
Born in 1953, Sweden.
Lena Kriström Kulin completed her art education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm 1978-84. Lena lives and works outside Uppsala and increasingly in southern France and Italy, where she finds stone material and inspiration. Each winter since 1993 she has enjoyed some weeks at the lcehotel, ice carving as well as conducting university level courses for landscape architects.

‘In the creative process I often let the shape of the piece guide me to an expression that I find interesting. I also transform lines or concepts from my drawings into works in stone or ice. I work mainly with figurative, semi-naturalistic motifs and for me the human face and body is a subject of big fascination.’
