Entrance and landscape

“We are seven students in the fifth year at the landscape architecture program at SLU, Ultuna/Alnarp.

We have been asked by ICEHOTEL 05-06 to design the outdoor environment surrounding the hotel and the passage between the reception and the river.

As landscape architects, we foremost work with large forms and spaces, while sculpture and decoration only occurs to a lesser extent in our work. In broad outline, we work with snow walls to mark the en-trance to the hotel and the church, sculptures of scrap ice along the passage, and parts of ice blocks in the wall.”

In their 9th year of collaboration with ICEHOTEL, Landscape Architecture students of SLU University, Uppsala, are invited to design and construct the outdoor surroundings of ICEHOTEL.

Initiated by lecturer Lena Kriström Kulin, also an experienced ICEHOTEL artist, the students work as a group on the design and construction. At the completion of the project, the students will produce a cata-logue, website and a DVD about the working process.
“It’s a truly unique project for the students, to gain real work experience from sketches to project com-pletion, thanks to the unique qualities of snow and ice.”
