“Countless sculptural formations can be seen when one takes a closer look at water in its natural envi-ronments. This ICEHOTEL suite is dedicated to the formations found in liquid water, solid ice, and gase-ous water vapour.

Complex organic curves are perfectly formed by surface tension and cohesive forces between water molecules, while hard, sharp and brittle formations are created when ice is sliced, smashed and shat-tered. The ability of water to defy gravity and disperse in an unstructured manner can be seen as it turns from liquid to gas, where as complex mathematical order and rigidity is exhibited in the minute details of snow crystals and snowflakes.”

Daniel Rosenbaum

Daniel Rosenbaum is a designer and lecturer of Ceramics and various Design subjects at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.

Daniel became inspired by ice after seeing blocks Torne River ice exhibited in Stockholm in 1998. Daniel has worked with ICEHOTEL for the last two winters in design and construction. In March 2005 coordi-nated an ICEHOTEL exhibition, which involved shipping 20 tons of Torne River ice to Sydney and Mel-bourne, Australia.

He enjoys designing furniture, home-wares, interiors, and working with ice and& snow concepts.

Dylan Pillemer

Dylan Pillemer is an Industrial Design graduate from the University of Technology Sydney in Australia, specializing in object design and jewellery. He is also a performance artist, working with fire installations and choreography.

Dylan was born and raised in South Africa, where he developed a close affiliation with nature. He feels a spiritual experience when working with pure materials. Having worked as a professional fire performer for many years he is now looking forward to experimenting with this pure yet almost completely opposite material.
