De Luxe suite 304
LuxLine

The design of the De Luxe suite reflects a creative
encounter between the Italian architect and designer
Luca Roncoroni and the Swedish artist and set designer
Tjåsa Gusfors.

The discussions have circled around space, rhythm,
contrast, collaboration, playfulness and codes of pattern.
The talks and the sketches which have preceded the mutual
proposal have wandered between developing and further
complicating a line of thought, and simplifying and
refining the same idea to something more dynamic.

Our aspiration has been to give the room a generous space
and sense of luxury and at the same time satisfying the need
for cosy warmth. All this, without abandoning the artistic
endeavour for the pure and simple.”

Luca Roncoroni

Luca Roncoroni is a trained architect in his home country Italy. He has been based in Norway since 2001 where he received further training and is now active as architect and designer. At ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi Luca has gained experience in diverse areas of the hotel
operations. He has participated in constructing the hotel and the ICE GLOBE THEATRE, in designing and building an ICEHOTEL SUITE, a De Luxe Suite and the ICE CHURCH.

In addition, he has collaborated with Minus Art Solutions, amongst other things in connection to the 2003 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. He has also been an invited artist at Snow Castle, Finland, and as head architect and producer of the ice work at the Gyro Event in Finse in the Norwegian Mountains. Luca also gives lectures at snow- and ice seminars.

Tjåsa Gusfors

In the world of Tjåsa Gusfors, theatre, music and art are three components deriving from the same source. They all interact in her work. She has been active as an artist at ICEHOTEL since 1999. In 2004/05 she was commissioned to design the ICE CHURCH. Tjåsa also makes sculptures for Ice-Gallery in Stockholm and is involved in private sculpting- and design projects where she sometimes collaborates with other ice artists and employers.

Tjåsa is interested in theatre and has been active as freelance set designer and puppet maker. In 1991 she founded Papagena Music & Theatre. She also acts as Creative Director for the traveling jester company Caravan Alterna Magica.

In 2006 she will be designing and constructing an ice and snow
cinema with a drive-in facility for snowmobiles at the Sámi
Film Festival in Kautokeino, northern Norway.
