Mwenya Chanda
Mwenya Chanda was born in 1976 in Chingola. His artistic sensibility traces back to childhood, develop-ing love for drawing and later photography, sculpture and installation.
In 1998 Chanda joined the Zambia National Visual Arts Council as a freelance artist. Through the Arts Council’s program Chanda has participated in art workshops and seminars. Interaction with other profes-sional artists has assisted him to develop his skill especially that he emerges from a country without a fine art school.
In 2003 his installation work ‘caught in the web’ won him, UNESCO Digital Art Award and six months art-ist in residence program at IAMAS in Ogaki, Japan. In 2004 Chanda had his first solo photo exhibition ‘ghetto life’ at the British Council in Lusaka.
Charles Chanda
Charles Chanda was born in 1970 Luanshya on the copperbelt province. His artwork has been exhibited mainly through collaborative works with Mwenya Chanda working and exhibiting together in Lusaka. Charles has mainly inclined to drawing, developing a unique touch which he calls ‘cool graffiti’ his work is between cartoons and art. In his drawings, Charles usually depicts social city life.
Charles recently featured at the Luleå Summer Biennale 2005 as Mwenya’s assistant to realize the ‘recy-cle booth’ installation. Charles is currently studying and based in Denmark.
