Karyatid
Art Suite 337
Anders Rönnlund & Johan Fremling
Who would think you could come to the Arctic Circle to find lightness? Walk down the tomblike ice corridor to enter an ancient sacred space. Karyatid, named for the architectual columns shaped like women, will give one just that - lightheartedness. Snow walls reminiscent of historic marble structures host exquisitely sculpted ice statues representative of these supportive columns. Johan Fremling and Anders Rönnlund hope ICEHOTEL guests will rest upon this ice bed and allow the karyatids to take hold of their troubles, lifting them to the winter skies. Enjoy this midwinter slumber knowing that your cares will be carried for you. Sleep peacefully.
Uppsala, Sweden is the lucky home for these two talented sculptors. Anders is a familiar face to ICEHOTEL while Johan enjoys his second visit.
"Have you ever taken a risk in design?" Anders and Johan laugh as they reply "Yes, designing the ice church 2010-11. Johan had acutally never worked with ice before!"
