We are in a privileged situation here at ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. Living so close to nature, even living off nature, with an abundance of pure freshwater from the Torne River, we are able to tap this inexhaustible source daily. I feel a sense of pride and gratitude to be able to witness and take part in the river's ecocycle. In the spring, it is humbling when ICEHOTEL melts and we return our "building material" to the Torne River.
As the hotel manager of ICEHOTEL, Kerstin Nilsson is responsible for both cold and warm accommodations, two restaurants, four bars and the gift shop, with a total of 100 employees during the peak season. “I have the best job in the world. We meet new guests everyday, who are seeing us and ICEHOTEL for the first time. We’re striving to reach that special feeling, the magic, in our meeting with every guest”, says Kerstin.
Sally, tell us about your job.
“I work with planning and sales of larger events for groups, conferences and incentives. These account for about 20% of our business at ICEHOTEL. Arrangements are always specially adapted, exclusive and unique for each...
