ICEHOTEL is Sweden's best travel experience. This is something that tour operators on Sweden’s main markets agree upon. The Trip Global Award was handed out during the Swedish Travel and Tourism Awards in Stockholm on Thursday 23 October 2008.

On December 10 ICEHOTEL starts its nineteenth season. And 20 December the first direct flight from London arrives in Kiruna. Last winter season ICEHOTEL hosted the Linnaeus Tercentenary Closing Celebration "Cool Crecendo". This year ICEHOTEL draws attention to the International Year of Astronomy, by letting the hotel's only luxury suite, take the form of a space capsule. Tjåsa Gusfors is behind the creation.
At the same time there is an increasing demand for ice sculpting events and events with the Torne River ice as a partner.
This is the first time the international price TRIP Global Award has been presented and behind the award is the travel and tourism industry in Sweden, together with Visit Sweden. The 23 nominating travel agents were represented by France, Germany, England, Holland and Italy.
