Swedish Institute of Space Physics
The Swedish Institute of Space Physics (Institutet för rymdfysik, IRF) is a governmental research institute. Its primary task is to carry out basic research, education and associated observatory activities in space physics, space technology and atmospheric physics.
Technical Visits at IRF offers in-depth knowledge in the following fields;
Aurora Borealis (Northern lights): What people used to believe, what we know today and how the phenomena is researched.
Atmospheric physics in the Arctic and Antarctica - nacreous clouds, noctilucent clouds and other phenomenons in the atmosphere (including research on the ozone and climate change).
Meteorites: What are they, where do the come from and how the phenomena is researched.
Satellite instruments: What you can learn from researching space physics with instruments aboard satellites. SATELLITE INSTRUMENTS: How these instruments are developed by IRF and what the measure.
Kristallen AB
Kristallen AB was founded in 1982 by Agne and Barbro Söderström in the small village Lannavaara in the municipality of Kiruna. Their aim was to combine gold- and stone tourism with production of stone jewelry. In the past 20 years the company has grown and established itself as the center for gemstone- and metal courses.

Diamonds: The beauty of diamonds has allured man since the beginning of time. Its unique brilliance and hardness makes it an obvious winner amongst precious stones. What does a diamond consist of? Where can they be found? How are they created? Why are they so hard? How do you cut them? What makes them so expensive? And the most important question of all - would it be possible for you to find one?

ICEHOTEL is a proof that a dream can become reality – over and over again. In fact the enrtire, surreal ICEHOTEL is proof that reality can actually exceed our expectations. In this spectacular environment we are offering a unique business development programme designed to inspire and guide forward-thinking companies on how to become winners in a low carbon economy.
This four day programme takes participants on a journey that involves developing a deep understanding of climate change, including its societal and business implications, and helps participants identify the concrete strategies and action steps needed to craft implementable low carbon projects that lead to measurable results.
ICE Climate Academy Objectives and Results Develop a deep understanding of climate change:
- No need to hide behind external experts anymore. Learn about solutions that are needed to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions.
- Leave motivated to be part of the solution (not just become less of a problem).
- Build capacity to use tools for climate calculation to guide the development of low carbon solutions within the company.
- Generate ideas for specific projects that help reduce emissions in society.
- Identify opportunities to communicate the ideas and projects to key stakeholders.

Space Tourism / Spaceport Sweden
Spaceport Sweden is about both establishing a spaceport infrastructure and a co-operation where different stakeholders from Kiruna’s business sector make a concentrated effort to establish Europe’s first and most inevitable place for commercial space travel.
Space tourism in Kiruna has a great potential for development and is expected to become a global billion industry. The vision of Spaceport Sweden is to become one of the most important players in this new experience industry, where all operators are dependent on a well-functioning spaceport.
Spaceport Sweden was inaugurated in January 2007. Today there is an established co-operation with Spaceport America, which will be the home base of the company Virgin Galactic. Virgin alone expects to launch about 50 000 space tourists during the first ten years, starting with Spaceport America in 2012, followed by Spaceport Sweden a few years later.
The talk begins with basic information about what space tourism is. Thereafter, the group will be lead through the process of establishing Spaceport Sweden. An exciting journey that began in 2005.

Barely 2% of all water on Earth is freshwater, of which only 1% is available for human usage. A fraction of it is fit for drinking. To sit in a rubber raft surrounded by millions of litres of this precious commodity is overwhelming. Our journey begins in the big lakes in the upper end of the Kaitum River system, an enormous reservoir of freshwater. It is a very rare and exclusive resource.
