Let’s Go Aptas
Hike through Europe’s oldest primeval forest. From sub-alpine forests to the alpine tundra; experience the magnificent Arctic wilderness up close.
The activity starts with a short 15 minute transfer from ICEHOTEL to the hike’s starting point, the mountain Aptas. At Aptas we begin our hike through Europe’s oldest primeval forest, from sub-alpine forests to the alpine tundra. You will see how the landscape change around you as we ascend higher, the trees turn to shrubs and the view is vast. After about 1,5 hour we reach the top of Aptas, 615 meters above sea level, where we stop for coffee and tea that we make over an open fire and you are served a light snack.
From the top, you have a stunning view over Kiruna City and the guide will talk about the mine and the move of the city. We head back down again and reach the parking lot about an hour later, and drive back to ICEHOTEL.
The price includes:
- Professional wilderness guide who tells you about the nature and wildlife
- Coffee or tea and a light snack.
- Transfer to and from Aptas’ parking lot

Available: Summer and fall (June 15–October 30
Place: Gather at Meeting Point where you together with the guide head out on a hike.
Duration: 3 hours
Equipment: Dress according to weather, comfortable hiking boots or jogging shoes.
Who is it suitable for: Everyone who consider themselves to be in good shape. The hike starts with a 1,5-hour walk uphill.
Restrictions: The hike is not physically challenging for a person in normal physical shape, but you should be in at least a basic physical shape to participate.
Keep in mind: Bring a camera to take pictures of the beautiful landscapes we walk through.
