Get married at ICEHOTEL
Couples from all over the world come to the Ice Church to promise each other eternal fidelity. Children from near and far are being baptized here. And couples that are already married can have their marriage blessed in the beautiful Ice Church. The unique experience of the place, the ice, the snow and the almost unreal surroundings at ICEHOTEL leave no one indifferent. And perhaps the shared memory and experience becomes even stronger for the very reason that the church is perishable. When no architectural memento exists, the memories and the vows exchanged are especially cherished.
The Ice Church only exists between December and April. On Christmas Day each year the Ice Church is consecrated by the Swedish Church.
The Ice Church can accommodate 35 to 45 people. The planning time varies from a few months to a couple of years. We recommend that you contact us well before it’s time. In terms of clothes everything from a traditional wedding dress to a snowmobile suit works. A good advice is to think warm.
ICEHOTEL also offers the possibility of having a civil marriage – perhaps in one of our beautiful art suites or in the breathtaking Main Hall. In the summer couples can get married with us under the beautiful midnight sun, or in the Jukkasjärvi church, the oldest wooden chapel in Lapland
Although our Ice Church returns to the river in spring, love is eternal.
Contact our wedding coordinator Eva Lundquist and she will guide you to the happy day.
Can foreign couples get married in Sweden?
Couples from other countries have to make a personal visit to the local Tax Office and apply for a certificate regarding consideration of impediments to marriage (hindersprövning). For more information, contact our wedding coordinator.
What about same-sex marriages?
Same-sex marriage in Sweden has been legal since 2009, following the adoption of a new, gender-neutral law on marriage. Sweden was the seventh country in the world to open marriage to same sex couples. ICEHOTEL welcomes all couples who wish to get married in our church.
