ICEHOTEL is located in the small village Jukkasjärvi with only 1000 inhabitants, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Even today you can feel the atmosphere from the time when the village was meeting place for the Sami people.
That Jukkasjärvi means meeting place in Sami is not a coincidence. Here they gathered once a year to swap and sell crafts, leather, fish and meat to vital goods like salt and iron.
Today, 400 years later, Jukkasjärvi has become a meeting place for people from all over the world.
Sami, Finnish and Swedish tradition has characterized the culture of Jukkasjärvi. The atmosphere of the village is still somewhat exotic. That it is located in one of Europe's last wilderness contributes to a bit funny-peculiar feeling. Because in the winter, several thousand people from around the world gather here to marvel at art and design of ice and snow.
During the summer you get to meet visitor experiences that are not available anywhere else: peace, silence, Sami culture and history, good food, the pristine wilderness and not least, the river - the mighty Torne River.
