White Guide 2016: ICEHOTEL Restaurant best in Kiruna – and top three in Swedish Lapland overall

On this week’s release of White Guide 2016, Scandinavia’s most comprehensive restaurant guide, ICEHOTEL Restaurant was rated the best dining experience in Kiruna and top three in Swedish Lapland overall.

Food and beverage manager Andreas Tegestedt and head chef Alexander Meier are proud and grateful of the award.

“We cook food with love and we have a passion for the products that Swedish Lapland is offering us. We really love our job and receiving this award is an important acknowledgment for us, says the head chef Alexander Meier who was working at two star Michelin restaurant le Béarn in Geneva before he started to work at ICEHOTEL Restaurant.”

White Guide 2016 classifies ICEHOTEL Restaurant as “Good class”, a likeable holistic experience where the kitchen presents a well-executed cooking:

” In October 2015, ICEHOTEL announced plans to invest SEK 30 million  (€3 m) into a year-round cold sleeping experience, run on solar power. With environmentally friendly cooling, solar panels and grass roof, ICEHOTEL will soon be able welcome even more guests from all corners of the world. And guests will of course continue to enjoy the unique ingredients from the mountains, rivers, marshes and large forests that are served in the ICEHOTEL Restaurant…”

Chef’s table – in the heart of the kitchen

This spring has seen the launch of ICEHOTEL chef’s table. Seated opposite the kitchen counter, guests find themselves in the middle of the action of a busy restaurant kitchen while enjoying an surprise menu exclusively designed by the chef for the evening together with a carefully selected drinks package. With only two seats available per evening, guests find themselves on the front row of an entertaining evening. Over the course of dinner, the ten strong kitchen brigade cooks and plates dinner meals and desserts for the hundred guests in the dining room; waiters carry out steaming plates of food and return with empty ones. The atmosphere is bustling, joyful, full of energy and friendly banter.

The five course Chef’s Table menu costs SEK 995 (€106) per person and comes with the option of a wine package at SEK 595 (€65). ICEHOTEL Restaurant also offers a balanced à la carte menu as well as a popular menu served on ice in the restaurant which seats 200 people.
