Outdoor Getaway with Frida Ronge – Curated by Icehotel

Sushi School & Wilderness Meals

From the 3rd to the 5th of September 2021, Icehotel will together with the award-winning chef Frida Ronge offer an exclusive outdoor weekend with a sushi class for a small group of people.

Frida, known for her role as a gastronomic leader at restaurant TAK in Stockholm and her love for Japanese cuisine, will combine this with her other major interest - wilderness life and outdoor cooking. She will generously share her knowledge during fishing trips, sushi school and wilderness meals, all 200 km north of the Arctic Circle in the village of Jukkasjärvi.

Where the air is clean and free of noise, guests will spend their days with Frida in Jukkasjärvi's primeval forests, by the national river Torne and of course at Icehotel, where they will spend a night in one of their Deluxe suites, surrounded by the magical ice art.

Among other things, we will learn about fishing from a trained fishing guide in what is considered one of the world's foremost fishing waters e.g., Grayling, maybe the catch will even be one of the features later during the evening’s sushi school! - Says Frida Ronge.

In addition to fishing and wilderness meals, guests will practice the traditional Jukkasjärvi sauna ritual. Sauna baths have a long tradition in northern Sweden and the contrasts between the hot and the cold are said to have health-promoting effects. Pamper both body and soul and do the ten steps in the sauna ritual, try everything from sauna baths, washing with tar soap, swimming in Torne river and then finish with a wonderful moment in the heated outdoor bathtubs.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be Frida's sushi school at the famous restaurant Veranda at Icehotel, it will be an evening worth remembering. The weekend then ends with a hike to the top of Puimunen - a lookout point where you can see all the way to Kebnekajse during a clear day.

ABOUT ICEHOTEL

Icehotel opened in 1989 and is beside a hotel also an art exhibition with ever-changing art out of ice and snow. Icehotel is created in a new guise every winter, completely made out of natural ice from Torne River, one of Sweden’s national rivers and last untouched waters.

When the winter season’s Icehotel has melted back into the river in the spring, a part of the hotel remains; Icehotel 365 - a place where visitors can experience the ice and sleep in hand carved art suites all year-round.
