A relaxing and wholesome sauna ritual shaped by Arctic contrasts – heat, cold, silence and the clarity of nature. A sensory reset rooted in traditions creates this specially composed sauna ritual including two different saunas, and an ice plunge in the Torne River. Take the opportunity and use the sauna like a local!
The Jukkasjärvi Sauna Ritual follows ten steps inspired by local culture: From the heat of the sauna, to washing with traditional tar soap, a plunge in the cooling Torne River and a pleasant moment in the heated outdoor bathtubs. In summer, one of our outdoor bathtubs is filled with ice water so you can take a cold plunge, even in summer!
The sauna guide introduces the ritual, its meaning and the heritage of the Jukkasjärvi Culture Sauna, the cradle of the Swedish Sauna Academy and an institution shaped by enthusiast Kalle Grundberg.
This not just a sauna, it’s a meeting between body, nature and the Arctic itself.

The price is valid for 1-6 people for private use.
The activity starts at the Jukkasjärvi Cultural Sauna, located next to The Old Homestead, about a 15-minute walk from ICEHOTEL. You walk through the village yourself and make sure to arrive at the sauna at the appointed time. If you need help with directions, please speak to our staff in the Adventure Center or Riverside Lobby.

Loan of bathrobe and towel as well as ecological, locally produced spa-products from C/O Gerd. You will also receive a Jukkasjärvi Sauna Diploma to bring home.
REQUIRED TO BRING
Your own swimsuit or swimming trunks. We can truly recommend dressing warm for the walk to Jukkasjärvi Culture Sauna from ICEHOTEL in winter. It's located next to The Old Homestead in Jukkasjärvi.

Maybe pack a change of clothes after your renewal in Torne River, one of Europe's cleanest rivers.
The activity is held at the Jukkasjärvi Culture Sauna, close to the restaurant The Old Homestead, about 800 meters from ICEHOTEL. The staff in Adventure Center or Riverside Lobby are happy to assist you with a map upon request. You will receive your towel and bathrobe on site.
Please note that children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian to partake in this activity.
