The theme of the suite is inspired by a song by Carl Michael Bellman, a Swedish 18th century songwriter and poet, who in his lyrics combined elements of rococo classicism with ribald scenery and whimsical action. Many of his songs are devoted to an insatiable lust for women and wine, preferably the two in combination. In the room, a lush secret garden, you will find a magical wall fountain.
Representing the core of inspiration and creativity, the fountain is the source of all art, poetry and music that flows from it. Metaphorically and physically, ice is pristine water, contained for a while - millennia or minutes - in a state of matter that reminds us of the passage of time. Ice is delicate and ever changing, just like life itself.
Tjåsa Gusfors has been working as an artist at ICEHOTEL since 2000. She is a multi-talented artists; she sings and creates sculptures from a variety of materials including wood, stone and sand. It's her voice you hear singing in the suite.
Ulrika Tallving is a sculptor, artist and stylist. Her work is often derived from animal shapes, and she often tries to create an experience of familiarity within the viewer, while also encompassing something new and innovative.
Both of the artists in this duo are skilles sculptors, and have worked at ICEHOTEL for many winter seasons.
