At the Veranda we want to create a welcoming atmosphere, and a cozy escape from the cold winter outside. With its soft lighting, intimate seating and relaxed atmosphere it will make you feel like you are gathering with friends for a shared meal. The Veranda feels more like a living room than a restaurant.
At the Veranda, the aim is simple; we want to create a tasting menu representing the seasonal flavours of the North. With 12 dishes, the menu takes you through all the eight Sami seasons we experience here in Jukkasjärvi.
The menu starts in Autumn – Čakča – when the season for fishing the Arctic Char ends. Our opening dish represents the river, with the nostalgia of summer and fall colours as the winter approaches.
Continuing through autumn-winter – Čakčadálvi – with a mushroom soup served with reindeer heat; a representation of a humble family meal, made with love and keeping you warm as the days are getting shorter and darkness returns.
In winter, harvesting anything from nature is difficult. At this time of year, we rely on things that have been preserved from summer and autumn. Through fermentation, salting and pickling we can continue to enjoy the produce from around us, all throughout the winter – Dálvi. Combining that with ingredients like Arctic grouse and pike perch, the dishes representing winter are complete.
Moving into winter-spring – Giđđadálvi – the sun returns, leaving the coldest part of the year behind in celebration with a ghakku made with wild rabbit. The rabbit represents the transformation from winter into spring, surviving the changes.
Spring – Giđđa – in Lapland means reindeer calf season, and the reindeer holds an important cultural meaning for the area, both historically and in the present. Here we present a dish based on reindeer, liver and blood – using as many parts of the animal as we can, so nothing goes to waste.
We move through spring-summer – Giđđageassi – and summer – Geassi – with dishes based on ingredients like berries, elderflower, bear and coffee.
Finally, back in Autumn, we reach the end of the years’ cycle. Our menu ends in autumn, with the stones of the Torne River; representing sweet little memories and the last views of the river stones before the next winter.
At The Veranda we take only take lactose allergy into account. We also offer a vegetarian Veranda menu. We cannot offer a vegan Veranda menu.
The Veranda is open Tuesday to Saturday at 7 pm, from December 12th 2025 until March 28h 2026.
