LACUNA
LACUNA
Design Ilka Raupach & Caroline Raupach | ICEHOTEL 37 | Available December 2026 - April 2027
About the art suite
LACUNA is an empty space or a hole where something should be.
The principle of the round arch of the ICEHOTEL architecture is reflected in the arrangement of the standing ice blocks on the floor. They enclose a space within a space. Even in themselves.
In the LACUNA, created by the artists, the beholders are invited to fill the missing part with their bodies, lean in and come in direct contact with ice, form and space.
Space only exists when there is an interactive relationship.
About the artists
Ilka Raupach is a trained ivory master carver who has studies sculpture at Burg Giebichenstein and KHIB Bergen. She loves to dive deep into a material in full concentration. Using her hands to work closely with snow and ice, she treats them not as materials to shape, but as collaborators. Since 2023 she is a professor at Hochschule Wismar.
Caroline Raupach is currently a student, studying Forest Sciences in Dresden. Caroline is particularly interested in entomology and botany. She enjoys going on field excursions to discover and document specimens through drawing.
