About the art suite
The project is conceived as an immersive and symbolic experience: An ice room that transforms into a suspended marine ecosystem, where the visitor is welcomed and enveloped by a school of fish in motion. The walls are sculpted with fish in bas-relief that emerge from and dissolve into the material. The sleeper is immersed in a continuous flow, as if they were part of the school. As if submerged in the frozen Torne River.
In one corner, a group of unfishable fish illuminate the room.
The intervention is also a poetic and political gesture. The school becomes a symbol of life, resilience and freedom. But also, fragility.
The work pays tribute to the commitment of the NGO “La Casa dei Pesci” – of which the two artists are members – in the fight against illegal fishing, transforming the room into a space for reflection on the relationship between humans and the marine environment. The ice, so ephemeral, underscores the precariousness of natural balances and invited greater awareness.
About the artists
Claudia Zanaga was born in Padua in 1993. She graduated with a degree in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and completed her studies in 2021 with a master's degree in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. She develops ideas linked to symbolic and universal forms, addressing anthropological themes such as traditions, migrations, metamorphosis and the post-human. She prefers to work with marble, as a concrete and eternal expression of the images she creates.
Abdulkadir Hocaoglu was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1993. He graduated from Anadolu University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Sculpture Department in 2017. He finished his master's degree at Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara Italy, sculpture department in 2021. He has participated in various exhibitions and symposiums in Turkey, Italy, Ecuador, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and China. He works from his studio in Carrara, Italy.
